Kenya Tea Industry Performance Highlights

Kenya Tea Industry Performance Report - 2025 September

Tea production for the month of September stood at 42.51Million Kgs, which was more or less at par with the output for recorded during the same period of last year of 42.41 Million Kgs. However, this was a slight recovery from the declining production trend that was recorded during the months of June, July and August. The recovery follows increased precipitation received during the month of September especially in the highlands west of the Rift Valley. During the month, tea growing areas in some parts of the West of the Rift received moderate rainfall ranging from an average of 30.44 mm to 78.44 mm daily for Kericho and 19.2 mm to 44.2 mm in Nandi. However, East of the Rift and the other parts of the West of the Rift (Bomet and Kisii/Nyamira) recorded generally low precipitation averaging between 2mm to 18 mm daily. Consequent to good weather conditions within the tea growing areas in West of the Rift, output recorded for the month was marginally higher by 1.58% (0.466 Million Kgs) from 29.44 Million Kgs during the corresponding period of last year to 29.90 Million Kgs. However, tea output within East of the Rift was slightly lower by 2.78% (0.360 Million Kgs) from 12.97 Million Kgs recorded in September 2024 to 12.61 Million Kgs, owing to lower rainfall in the region.
