Kenya Tea Industry Performance Highlights

Kenya Tea Industry Performance Report - 2025 July

Tea production for the month of July 2025 was lower by 4.37% (1.78 Million Kgs) from 40.82 Million Kgs recorded during the same period of 2024 to 39.04 Million Kgs. It was also lower compared to 42.41 Million Kgs recorded during the month of June 2024. Lower and declining production that is characteristic of the month of July follows reduced rainfall experienced in most parts of the country coupled with the cold weather conditions which commenced in June. During the month of July, which usually marks the peak of the June-July-August cold season, tea growing areas within the East of Rift recorded very minimal precipitation averaging less than 12 mm daily and low temperatures of between 12°C and 21°C. Within the West of the Rift, temperatures ranged between 8°C and 26°C while the rainfall was moderate with some of the tea growing areas such as Kericho and Nandi recording precipitation of between 17.6 mm to 79.3 mm daily. However, others tea growing regions in the West of Rift such as Bomet and Kisii/Nyamira received relatively lower rainfall averaging between 2 to 36 mm. Owing to cool and dry weather conditions, the tea output within the East of Rift Region dropped significantly by 9.8% (0.908 Million Kgs) from 9.270 Million Kgs recorded in the month of July last year to 8.361 Million Kgs. Within the West of Rift, output dropped by 2.78% (0.877 Million Kgs) from 31.555 Million Kgs 30.678 Million Kgs.
