Tea production for the month of June 2025 was lower by 8.11% (3.744 Million Kgs) from 46.16 Million Kgs recorded during the same period of 2024 to 42.416 Million Kgs. It was also lower compared to 52.13 Million Kgs recorded during the month of May 2024. Lower and declining production follows dry and sunny conditions experienced in most parts of the country and lower rainfall following the cessation of the "Long Rains" season and the onset of the cold weather conditions in the month of June. Owing to adverse weather conditions, the tea output within the West of Rift Region dropped significantly by 11.4% (3.74 Million Kgs) from 32.89 Million Kgs recorded in the month of June last year to 29.14 Million Kgs. Within the East of Rift, output was more or less steady at 13.2 Million Kgs on account of light rains and occasional cool and cloudy conditions. Across the producers, smallholder tea factories under the Management of KTDA were the most affected recording a production decline of 8.78% (2.09 Million Kgs) from 23.83 Million Kgs during the corresponding month of 2024 to 21.74 Million Kgs. Similarly, The Estates factories were equally affected and recorded a production drop of 12.54% (1.525 Million Kgs) from 12.16 Million Kgs to 10.635 Million Kgs. The state-owned Nyayo Tea Zones, which has coverage in the West and East of Rift also recorded a decline in production from 406,058 Kgs to 188,631 Kgs while the independent/ private tea factories maintained a steady output of about 9.8 Million Kgs.
